From the Editor: VIA 2017
The 2017 issue of VIA, Saint Louis University’s Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research Journal, has been a success. With more submissions than ever, we chose from a competitive pool of essays, all of which demonstrate the high-level thinking, writing, and research that students at SLU are producing. As a staff, we were consistently impressed by the creativity and the rootedness of each paper in issues of social justice. We are proud that SLU undergraduates are taking advantage of classroom opportunities to research and to write about local, national, and global justice issues. In this respect, the papers we publish this year from Theology, Theatre History, Philosophy, Communication Theory, English, African American Studies, and more show that students have engaged their disciplines to bring light, nuance, and urgency to scholarly argument.
As always, we are excited to publish the English-Research Intensive Senior Honors Projects to demonstrate the high-level research and writing that Senior English Majors are producing in their last semester.
I am grateful to all the students who submitted, to the staff for their hard work, keen observations and critical eye, and to Saher for the support and direction throughout this year’s process.
